Enigma
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
Enigma is a 2016 sculpture by Ohio artist Kevin Lyles. This stainless steel cube frame is spanned by a plethora of curvilinear rods. The rigid steel material and the sturdy form of the cube are offset by the more natural and seemingly random elements contained within. This seems to be a reflection of Lyles' tendency to draw inspiration from nature. "Often inherent in nature are patterns, contrasts, textures, and contradictions."1 Enigma was initially exhibited as part of the Morgantown River Town Public Art Program before being moved from its location on the Monongahela River to the Creative Arts Center. Enigma is one of two sculptures by Lyles on Creative Arts Center grounds, the other being Last Dance.
