Chemin-A-Haut State Park is located ten miles north of Bastrop, Louisiana. Established in 1935, Chemin-A-Haut sits on 503 acres and overlooks the Bayou Bartholomew. The Park is perfect for families with children due to its swimming complex, rental boats, and picnic areas. There are also hiking trails and several other State Parks and attractions nearby.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park sits on the high bluffs overlooking the winding Bayou Bartholomew. This path was used by Native Americans during their seasonal migrations. The name Chemin-A-Haut means “High Road” in French, and refers to the high bayou waters that run throughout the park. Chemin-A-Haut State Park is a perfect destination for families with children. There are various activities such as swimming, hiking, picnicking, kayaking, and camping. There are also two playgrounds located at the park as well.

For families or individuals who enjoy fishing, Big Slough Lake sits on the edge of the park and is the perfect place for catching freshwater fish. There are fully equipped cabins for those who don’t enjoy camping. Three hiking trails are a part of Chemin-A-Haut; Bobcat Trail, Boy Scout Trail, and the Equestrian Trail. Located just outside of Chemin-A-Haut are several attractions such as Handy Brake National Wildlife Refuge and the Georgia Pacific Wildlife Management Area. These wildlife areas add to the natural beauty of the Chemin-A-Haut area.
