Along with her husband, Isaac Emrick, Rebecca Recco created Power in 2013. The enormous paint on block mural is composed of a Black background covered in squares of color. The Power mural was adapted from a smaller painting with the same title that Recco created for a Christmas exhibit at the Clay Center. The original inspiration for the work was a long exposure photograph of a carnival ride. Recco designed the work to appear differently based on whether the viewer was driving by in a car, standing up close, or walking the length of the work. The title is a nod to both the mural's location near Appalachian Power Park and West Virginia's controversial role as a source of power for other states. The vibrant multi-dimensional display of colors are reminiscent of an led board or electronic screen, further drawing parallels between the name and imagery.
