The Portales Woman’s Club building was constructed by the W.P.A. Organized in 1903, Incorporated in 1909 and joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs in 1911. It is still in service, and may have housed examples of New Deal artwork in its early days.[1]
A new club house was built in 1932 in just 90 days.
The Portales Woman's Club is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, which has been a unifying force, bringing together local women's clubs from around the country and throughout the world. Although there is considerable diversity in the ages, interests, and experiences of GFWC clubwomen, all are united by a dedication to community improvement through volunteer service.
