William Wetmore, Joshua Stow's cousin and a land agent, brought settlers to Stow in 1804 to settle the area. It took 40 days to make the trip from Connecticut in a covered wagon pulled by two horses. He and his wife Anna brought 4 children: William Jr., Edwin, Henry, and Clarissa. They had two more, Ogden and Harriet, after arriving. Born in Middletown, Connecticut, William Wetmore and his family lived in a house near Silver Lake. William Wetmore was a veteran of the War of 1812. He had a good relationship with Chief Wagamong of the Mingo tribe. Among those who settled in Stow with him was his half-brother, Titus Wetmore.
