The St. Bonaventure Golf Course has served the University and the Town of Allegany for close to 100 years. The history of the Golf Course is credited to Father Thomas Plassmann who was also influenced the development of the St. Bonaventure Railroad which occurred on campus for nearly a decade. The St. Bonaventure Golf now is only nine holes but at one time it was eighteen holes.

The St. Bonaventure Golf Course was officially opened in May of 1929 where it would later be opened to the members after the opening match between four men. The idea of putting a golf course in that location came rom Thomas Plassmann who was the President of St. Bonaventure College at that time. Plassmann stated that that location across the street from the college is "fitting and naturally ordained location for a golf course."

The Golf Course opened up in 1929 but the construction and design of the golf course started in 1927, where a man from Rochester, New York named Roscoe Evershed was in charge of the construction. The course was architected by two men from Buffalo, New York. When the course first opened there was a constitution made which stated all of the rules for the course.

Today, the St. Bonaventure course is still open and it is very popular especially for students when the weather is nice. The golf course is now a public golf course opened to students and the community. The main difference between the course now and when it first opened is that the course was eighteen holes, but now it is only nine holes. The prices vary for students pending on whether it is a weekday or weekend.
