Lincoln Historical Log Cabin
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky, but his most historical home, other than the White House, was his father's historic log cabin. These log cabins were very common for folk to have in the central and western states, and it was not uncommon in this life to pack as many family members into one of these log cabins. Although Abraham Lincoln did not live in this log cabin, it remains one of the most historical homes of a president in order to show the struggle that he had to endure on his way to becoming president.

Abraham Lincoln is one of the most important historical figures in all of American history. It is near impossible to tell the story of the United States of America without including the life of Abraham Lincoln. One of the coolest things about Lincoln's life that does not pertain to politics and his many struggles with the war, was that Lincoln Logs, which were released in 1924, were based on Lincoln's childhood log cabin. This fact about Lincoln is very interesting to me because when talking to classmates of mine, many of them did not realize that Abraham Lincoln is the namesake of Lincoln Logs even though there is a clear connection.
With Lincoln living a very difficult life especially in his childhood with his entire family living in a very small log cabin, it was always interesting to learn about him as the first "blue collar" president. I never really appreciated blue collar for what it is and never understood how important these workers were and are to the success of our country. The lumber business is something that has always been prominent in the United States and it was very cool to look at these stories and understand that Abraham Lincoln was able to create something of himself even after coming from nothing.
Although this log cabin has no true importance in the life of Abraham Lincoln, it is clear that the fuse to Abraham Lincoln's drive was lit in this home and his character began to evolve during his difficult early life. It is very interesting to see a historical location be a log cabin especially one that was the home to such a prominent man. The namesake of Lincoln Logs is also very interesting to me because it was used as a sort of propaganda to promote construction jobs within the minds of young Americans while also teaching of our historical westward expansion.
