This memorial behind Auburn High School honors Air Force Major David L. Brodeur who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2011. Brodeur was a 1994 Auburn High School graduate and honor student and a senior pilot with more than 1,600 hours in fighter aircraft. Brodeur was also an F-16 instructor, Flight Commander, and Weapons ADO for the 18th Aggressor Squadron.

In 2003, Brodeur served as part of the 77th Fighter Squadron in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In April of 2011, he was on deployment to Afghanistan from Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. While in Afghanistan, Air Force Major David L. Brodeur was assigned as an advisor to the Afghan Command and Control Center under the NATO Air Training Command. Unfortunately, he lost his life on April 27, 2011 at Kabul Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.
