The West Side Market is Cleveland’s oldest publicly owned market that dates to 1840. There has been many renovations and buildings throughout the market’s history. The current building was constructed in 1912 by designing firm Hubbell and Benes. It has a signature clock tower and red brick which adds to its early 1900’s aesthetic. There are up to one hundred stalls inside where people from all kinds of cultures come to sell goods. The building has been renovated multiple times, the most recent was in 1992 to help upkeep the buildings sanitary codes. Walking into the building, you will notice the red brick ceiling and arches. The stalls are set up in a grid patter that almost feels maze like. It will become apparent while walking around the stalls just how diverse Cleveland’s community really is.
