The hotel was the scene of several meetings in the late 1890s to plan the extension of the railway to Kennebunk and Cape Porpoise. The hotel went out of business at the beginning of the Depression and was torn down in 1934. A succession of banks, including Casco Northern, occupied this site for many years. In 2013, the last bank was converted into a Verizon store which became Aroma Joe's coffee shop in recent years.
