The Goodall Mansion was built for Thomas Goodall and his family in 1871, an Englishman who made his fortune in the American textile business, and was also the owner of the Goodall Mill in Sanford. The house originally had more elaborate Second Empire styling, including projecting window bays and an entry portico. In 1909 renovations for the Mansion had begun. Ernest Goodall, the youngest son of Thomas Goodall, inherited the mansion upon his father's death in 1910. Ernest replaced many features of the mansion, with the existing Colonial Revival treatment. The last Goodall resident was Ruth Goodall Pitstick, the great-granddaughter of Thomas Goodall. To this day the Thomas Goodall Mansion is considered one of the finest surviving examples of a mill owner's residence in the State of Maine.
