The Library Company of Philadelphia is the oldest library in the city but also one of the oldest institutions in the United States. Founded by Benjamin Franklin, it has some of the most valuable printed pieces of paper and scripts in the United States such as the mayflower compact and revolution era pamphlets. The current size or collection of books is around 500,000 items.
