The Garden Theatre opened in 1935 and operated until 1963, offering a single-screen cinema where locals would go to see newsreels or films. The Garden Theatre was the first theater in Central Florida to have “talkies,” which was the name given to films that included audio. Through the efforts of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, the Garden Theatre was reopened in February 2008. The theater hosts hundreds of events from plays to concerts, as well as movies.

The Garden Theatre was the first theater in Central Florida to have “talkies”, which are sound films . It was built for families to be together and enjoy a nice film from their time or watch the news. When it was unfortunately closed down, rumored to be because of the rise of television, it became a supply store and lost its charm. With many attempts by the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, they were able to reopen the Garden Theatre in February 2008. Since its reopening, there has been a new sense of community in the citizens of Winter Garden and it is once again a well loved place for families to be entertained.

The Garden Theatre was built in 1935 in Winter Garden, Florida. Where it was originally a single screen cinema where locals would go to see newsreels or films. Sadly, probably due to the rise of television, it closed in 1963. Thankfully, after many protests and attempts from the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, the Garden Theatre was reopened in February 2008. It now plays 450 shows each season and tries to have 4-7 events each week. This great theater hosts plays, concerts, movies and more.
