The 515-acre urban park, "Amelia Earhart" was named in honor of Amelia Earhart. Amelia Earhart became a record-breaking female aviator, whose international fame gained public acceptance of aviation and in the long run, paved the way for other women in commercial flight. Earhart took her last flight from Miami in Hialeah in 1937.

Amelia Mary Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansason on July 24, 1897. After graduating from high school, she left to work at a Canadian military hospital during World War 1. Working at the military hospital, she met many aviators, which sparked her interest in flying. After World War 1, Earhart went to Columbia University and later to the University of South California. In 1928, Amelia's life completely changed, when George Putnam, a publisher, reached out to Amelia to become "the first woman to cross the Atlantic by plane" and he would be her promoter. She successfully accomplished this mission.

Consequently, she became a media sensation after this, being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic ocean. Putman published two books for Amelia, known as "20 Hrs. 40 Mins. (1928) and The Fun of It (1932)". Amelia Earhart and George Putman later got married in 1931.

In 1937, Amelia Earhart was hired by "Purdue University" as an aviation advisor. She was also known as a counselor for women at Purdue University. Seeking to become the first woman to fly around the world, she flew out of Miami on June 1, 1937 with Fred Noonan; a navigator. During the flight, with only 7,000 miles left, the plane lost its radio connection. The plane was never found. The famous aviator, Amelia Earhart went missing a long with Fred Noonan.Till this day, her whereabouts remain unknown. Although they've continued the search for decades later, they have never been able to find evidence or remainings.
