The early settlers started living in Apopka in the 1820s for the rich lands, lakes, and two rock springs, making it the perfect place for agriculture. In merely fifty years, it became one of the most prosperous counties in the 1870s. When the county seat was to be relocated from Enterprise on Lake Monroe to Jernigan, there was every reason to believe The Lodge, with its available transportation via the Wekiwa River, would be a logical choice. However, "Out politicked," the vote went to Jernigan, and the county government was established in that area, now renamed Orlando. As it was quickly dubbed, Apopka City continued to grow the agricultural culture that is now essential to our economy.

Apopka City Hall

This was built in 1882.

The Museum of Apopkans talks about the city of Apopka where the soldiers of the Seminole War were granted bounty land while other settlers bought the land. The Seminole wars were a series of three wars fought between the United States and the Seminoles from 1816 to 1858. The Seminoles were the North American Indian tribe.
