The Library was first a local teacher's living room, first created by a donation of 360 books. It underwent additions in 1907, 1959, 1972, and 1989. Contributions were made from indivudals all over the area, with books, funds, and aid being provided by individuals who chose maitland as their home. In 1924, a woman named Stella Waterhouse was named the librarian, and thus she dedicated her life to the library, providing architecurtal help and allowing the library to gain support. The library board is constantly growing and money is constantly being donated to allow for new renovations to be made.
