Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
By the early 20th century, Cambridge was an international hub for an array of industries. By the end of the 19th century, Caribbean immigrants fleeing the collapse of their respective economies joined the Cambridge workforce. The candy industry, fueled by the legacy of slavery within the Caribbean and sugar imports, was especially boisterous in the Cambridge area. The Squirrel Brand Company was one such Cambridge-centered candy company that employed many of the area's Caribbean population.
