If a taste of some genuine homemade ice cream is what you are in the mood for, Austin's Ice Cream is the place for you. Austin’s Ice Cream originally opened in Ceredo, West Virginia in 1947, and in 1983 it was purchased by a former banker named Joyce Snyder. Today, at the age of 79, Snyder still wakes up early each morning from April to October to prepare her renown homemade ice cream that first made Austin’s Ice Cream famous. Snyder has created numerous homemade favourite flavours of ice cream over the years. She herself prepares the ice cream every morning.

Austin’s Ice Cream was first opened up in 1947. It has since changed hands three times since its operations. It was purchased by the Austin family in the year 1950. This is where the name of the wonderful little ice cream shop began. The name was changed to Austin’s Ice Cream and has remained the same ever since. The current owner, although not a member of the Austin family, decided to keep the name consistent throughout the years.

During the summer months every morning in the early hours of the day, Joyce Snyder begins preparations to create one of the tri-state area’s favorite treats. Joyce Snyder is the owner of the beloved ice cream drive-in known as, Austin’s Ice Cream. Austin’s Ice Cream is one of the first places you will encounter upon entering Ceredo, or the last place you will see upon exiting. Here people are able to satisfy their sweet tooth with delicious homemade ice cream and are offered dozens of flavors to choose from. The most raved about flavor has to be the grape-pineapple.

The current owner, Joyce Snyder, purchased the establishment in 1983 and has been making all of the ice cream from scratch every day ever since. Snyder had worked for a Dairy Queen franchise before becoming a banker, and when she saw that the drive-in ice cream shop had gone up for sale, she decided it was time to get back into the ice cream game. Snyder enjoys thinking up new flavors to create and even makes seasonal flavors depending on what month it is. All of her ice cream making knowledge is kept a secret and she plans to keep the business going but only in its current location. She does not seek to create a franchise of the delicious ice cream she creates. 2015 marks the year that Snyder will pass on her torch to her son Kevin to begin running the business.
