Located in a historic armory and a contemporary building, the Winona County History Center is the leading historical and cultural institution in the city. Highlights of the museum include the main floor exhibit that allows visitors to walk though history as they view dioramas and replicas of historic buildings. The second floor travels along an elevated walking track and contains exhibits that present the history of Winona from its Native inhabitants to the lumber barons and laborers that built the city. There is also a special exhibit for children and a research library that is open to all.

The museum is located in a historic armory built in 1915, as well as a contemporary building next to the armory, the Laird Norton Addition.
