Founded in the 1999, the Museum of Madeiran Heritage preserves the history and culture of the Madeira Islands which are located 600 miles southwest off the coast of Brazil. The museum features numerous items including pottery, weaving, embroidery, lace, linens and traditional costumes. Each year the town of New Bedford hosts the world's largest Madiera festival, welcoming around 100,000 visitors, many of whom come from around the world.
