Description

A historic home located in New Bern, NC which was built in the early 1780s. The home was built for a wealthy and prominent member of the New Bern society named John Wright Stanly. The home's interior and exterior designs display a taste of southern wealth. The home was occupied by the wealthy business man John Wright Stanly and his wife Ann Cogdell. There also lived their nine children. Sadly, Mr and Mrs Stanly died of yellow fever in 1789. The children were all still young of age and had to move away from their home until taken over by the oldest son in 1798. It's stated that in President George Washington's southern tour he stayed in the Stanly house during his visit. For information visit www.tryonpalace.org
