The Springfield Museum of Art is the city's oldest cultural organization. It houses over 10,000 works of art—including sculptures, paintings, textiles, decorative arts, pottery, ceramics—from a wide range of cultures and periods. A number of large sculptures are displayed on the museum grounds. The museum also offers classes and workshops for people of all ages in drawing, painting, pottery, and other areas. The museum has earned the distinction of being accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

The museum's origins date to 1926, when a group of women art enthusiasts formed an organization called the Art Study Club. The club grew eventually grew into the museum, which on incorporated on June 26, 1928.
