The Miwok Native Americans were the first to settle the town of Novato in 1300 followed by centuries of varying pioneers, and a great place to learn about the town's history is the Novato History Museum. The museum is located in a historic home that was built in 1850 and belonged to the town postmaster. Today, the museum gives visitors a taste of 19th century life through exhibits, artifacts, photos, and more. The museum is sponsored along with the Hamilton Field History Museum by the Novato Historical Guild.
