The Valley County Pioneer Museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the county's history through its exhibits, genealogical archives, library, and the special events it holds throughout the year. The exhibits explore various areas including Native American culture and history, the Fort Peck Dam, aviation, early homes and schools, and the railroad industry. There is also a large exhibit of wildlife mountings and a U.S. Air Force jet outside on display outside.

Visitors to the museum will see numerous artifacts, photographs, dioramas, clothing, and other items on display. Highlights include an Assiniboine teepee—one of the last three elk hide tepees remaining—an elaborate and historical Buffalo Bill Cody Bar; a World War I flight suit; railroad memorabilia such as toy trains, lanterns and brakemen's caps; cowboy items such as chaps, saddles, and brands; jewelry created by a local company; school memorabilia; and a 1915 recreated street scene. The museum also features a 1924 catalog home (located behind the building), which contains period a dining room and schoolhouse room, and a machine yard that has antique tractors, a Great Northern Caboose, and various antique equipment on display. The archives contains newspapers and genealogical records, and the library houses books related to Montana history
