Albert C. Shinn came to Kansas in 1866 and homesteaded 240 acres here. he built a log cabin that lasted until 1961, when it burned. The farm house was built in 1870. A Civil War veteran, Shinn served in the Army of the Potomac and fought the first two days of the battle of Gettysburg. He was active in early agricultural organizations and served as the president of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture. The farm remained in the family until a few years ago.
