Planning for the library began in early 1908 after residents began calling for a public library. A committee was formed and requested funds from Andrew Carnegie in the amount of $12,500. He accepted in March and in April residents voted in favor of a tax to fund the rest of the building cost. The library officially opened on January 3, 1910. An addition was built in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration. Another addition was erected in 1975, giving the library its current size. It has undergone various renovations and other improvements in recent years and was was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
