Fisherman’s Castle is located in the Irish Bayou of New Orleans just off of I-10 near Slidell, Louisiana. Fisherman’s Castle was created in 1981 by Simon Villemarette for the 1984 World’s Fair. The castle was built to withstand hurricanes and other extreme weather, and is one of the few structures to survive Hurricane Katrina with minor damage.
Fisherman’s Castle is composed of two bedrooms and one and a half baths, with medieval decor. The decoration consists of knights, statues, swords, and other 14th century adornments. After Villemarette passed from lung cancer, the house fell into foreclosure. The castle was purchased in 1995 by Charles and Jean Kuhl who sold it in 2013. Fisherman’s Castle was purchased once again in 2014 by LFS Investments L.L.C. The company has begun renovations and repairs on the property. The land that was disturbed by Katrina has been leveled as a new bulkhead has been added for increased protection. The castle currently sits on private property so viewing is only possible from the street.
