Established in 1877 by Charles Eckart as the Eckart Carriage Company, this local company was later organized as the Auburn Automobile Company in 1900. The historical marker offers a short introduction to the highlights of the company that made two-cylinder models before changing to four and six-cylinder automobiles. The Depression combined with poor stock value lead to the company's shutdown in 1937.

Backstory and Context

The company developed the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenburg trademarks. Using Duesenburg car models, Cord tried to make a luxury car with the help of many different car designers. After making many different type of luxury cars in the late 20s and for most of the 1930s. Like many companies during the time frame though, the Depression resulted in the company going under in 1937. The marker is next to a museum that interprets the history of the Auburn Automobile Company.
