This local history museum was established in 1982 and offers a variety of exhibits that interpret the history of Jonesborough and Washington County through artifacts, photographs, and historic documents. The gallery is located in the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center and includes a collection of historic documents and photos. The museum dates back to efforts by locals to preserve the history of their community leading up to the nation's bicentennial, an event that helped generate support for securing a home for a museum. Supporters of this movement bought a nine and half-acre tract of land in Duncans Meadow in March 1980 and began work creating a combination welcome center and museum. By 1987, the new Visitor Center opened its doors and museum exhibits were soon moved to this central location that connects visitors with residents.
