Originally built in 1942 by Hank Aaron’s father, this historic home is an active museum that can be visited to learn more about Hank Aaron and the history of Mobile and segregation in the south. Hank Aaron was born in Mobile AL on February 5th, 1934 to Estella and Herbert Aaron. Hank Aaron is best known for his stunning baseball career and for breaking Babe Ruth’s record of 714 home runs. When first constructed this home had only three rooms and was located in the Toulminville neighborhood. The building gained additions in 1962 and 1972 that increased the room count to seven, greatly increasing its size and floor plan. Hank Aaron’s mother Estella lived in this home from 1942 up until 2007 when the city bought the home to relocate for the purpose of becoming a museum. On October 27, 2008, the family home was relocated to the Hank Aaron Stadium seven miles away. The museum would have its grand opening on April 14th, 2010 after 22 months of restoration and reconstruction. Today the museum is open to the public to learn more about Hank Aaron and the history of baseball and segregation in Mobile AL.
