In 1917, local newspaper editor Charles F Carr donated his collection of natural history items as well as his personal collection of books to create the New London Public Museum. For years, the collection was exhibited in the public library. In 1932, a building to house the museum was erected next to the library. These buildings were joined in 1986. At this time, the museum was moved to the lower level of its original building. Today, people from all over the country visit the museum every year to discover local, natural and Native American History.
