The Springhaven Inn was built in 1889 as a resting place for travelers riding stagecoaches to Lenoir. These stagecoaches were public transport much like modern day busses. At Springhaven Inn the coaches could switch out their horses for rested ones before continuing their journey. After its initial use as an Inn, Springhaven was used as a boarding school, restaurant, shop, as well as a private residence. During the cool summers of the 1930s, famous author of the bestselling novel Gone with the Wind, Margaret Mitchell would stay at Springhaven. In the early 1900s the inn was moved from its original location to its current location and has kept the main 1889 structure. Today it is again used as an Inn which hosts 6 bedrooms with a private bathroom, two sitting rooms, a kitchen, two dining areas, and a large wrap around porch.
