The Sailor's Home " was built for temporary lodging arrengement for the tired seamen.
The Sailor's Home, Calcutta, a destitute seamen's asylum, was situated in 1839, where the Metcalf Hall stands. Rev. Thomas Atkins was appointed as the first superintending secretary . The Sailor's Home Calcutta moved to another building just north of the junction of Stand Road with Here Street facing river side. In late 19 th century the Sailor's Home, which was then in dilapidated state, was pulled down and replaced with Magistrate's court. There ends the story of the Sailor's Home, Calcutta
