On January 21, 1926, Adams married Mable Dean in Jacksonville, Florida. On the Record of Marriages and Licenses, Adams’ occupation was listed as stevedore. Adams listed his occupation as truck driver on the 1930 United States Census of Jacksonville. According to the 1935 Florida State Census, he was living with his father, William Sr.; his mother, Annie; his wife, Mable; his brother, Benjamin; and his sister-in-law, Mable C. at 817 Ruth St., Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Adams listed his occupation as city clerk. On a Marriage License Application dated June 23, 1938, Adams listed his first wife as deceased. He then married Magolene Tucker in a ceremony officiated by Rev. J. F. Sorrelo on June 23, 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida. On the 1940 United States Census of Jacksonville Beach, Adams listed his occupation as foreman. According to the 1945 Florida State Census, his residence was 1304 N 1st Ave., Jacksonville Beach, Florida and his occupation was listed as road engineer.
