Cork Kiln
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The cork kiln was used for drying cork to be used in fishing nets. The building was constructed in 1915 at the height of the fishing industry in Port Stanley. It was built into the side of the hill as a natural means of maintaining the dry heat necessary to dry cork. The cork kiln remains as a symbol of the importance of the fishing industry in this town for many years.
