Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex, also known as the Goldstone Observatory, holds the Pioneer Deep Space Station. The Pioneer Station was the first deep space station built by NASA in 1958. The station allowed for deep space exploration with unmanned crafts. Today, the station isn't active since far superior satellites have been developed, but at the time, it was a massive leap in communication technology and helped on many NASA missions including Apollo, Pioneer, and Voyager.

- This site talks about the Goldstone Pioneer Station. Built in 1958, the Pioneer Deep Space Station was the first deep space antenna at Goldstone and aided many space missions such as Apollo. The station was shut down in 1981, but was later declared a National Historic Monument as it was the first deep space antenna.

- The National Park Service talks about the history of the antenna and how it works. The Pioneer Station used radio frequencies to locate satellites and other rockets. The station was connected to two others located in Australia and Spain to help provide a continuous 24 hour view. While the stations have been shut down, they were the first of their kind and have lead to many new ones each better than the last.
