This building was built in 1852 by a Mr. Pheiffer. During the time from 1852 to 1899itwas the site of a drug store, cigar making shop and tavern. In 1899 Gustav Meister bought it and began his printing business. Here was printed the German newspaper founded by Henry Kramer, Der Botschafter (The Messenger) until 1917 when anti- German sentiment caused it to be discontinued. In 1910 Meister added living quarters to the print shop and moved his family into his new home. Mr. Meister retired in 1955 and Welcome Flynn took over with job printing. The home is presently owned by Elridge Miller.
