The Boston Manufacturing Company was formed in 1813 as a partnership between businessman Francis Cabot Lowell and others for the manufacture of textiles. At this site, Lowell's associated proved that an American firm could successfully compete with English textile mills, a major success leading to the American Industrial Revolution.
