Mount Dora Lighthouse

Mount Dora located next to the one of the largest lake chains in Florida. The Lake Dora being part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, a great destination for boating and fishing, needed a way to help boaters and fisherman a like to navigate them through the water during dusk and oncoming weather. Thus, the Mount Dora lighthouse was constructed, through community efforts and dedication, the light house was finished by 1988 and registered as an interior aid to navigation which is actually the only one in the State of Florida.

Even though the lighthouse is relatively new in in regards of the history Mount Dora it has been a symbol of the people’s initiative and love for Mount Dora and is truly a Monument for the people. The collaborative fund-raising effort was to help the local fishermen at the times to navigate from Tavares to Mount Dora during the night and allowing for more safe travel for the people who live off of Lake Dora.
