Established in 1927, Pine Lakes Country Club was the first golf club in Myrtle Beach and it remains one of the best in South Carolina. As the first country club founded in the area, it is significant for its association with the development of Myrtle Beach as a popular tourist destination and coastal community. In addition, the club's building features elements of Classical Revival architecture including a two-story main entrance portico with Doric columns and a colonnade on the rear facade. The club includes a restaurant, an 18-hole golf course, and a swimming pool.

Originally called Ocean Forest Country Club, Pine Lakes was founded by John T. Woodside and his brothers in 1927. They bought 65,000 acres of oceanfront and other properties from the Myrtle Beach Farms Company and a portion of this land, which was originally natural sand dunes, would become the club. New York-based architect Raymond Hood designed the club's building and the the future first president of the Professional Golfer's Association (PGA), Robert White, designed the golf course, which was originally had 27 holes. Unfortunately for the Woodside brothers, they lost their fortunes in the stock market crash of 1929. They did, however, play an important role in jumpstarting Myrtle Beach's emergence as a tourist destination. The course shrunk to 18 holes in 1946. The club was added to the National Register of Historic Places 1996.
