If the town of Troutdale has a birthplace it is here where Captain John Harlow established fish ponds, stocked them with trout, naming his farm retreat Troutdale. He laid out a town on the hill behind his farm and insisted that it have a rail depot.
Near here the Oregon Trail travelers camped after rafting down the the Columbia River to the mouth of the Sandy River. They reassembled their wagons and took the trail -- now called Robin's Way -- to go on to Oregon City.
