Forrest City was the early home of one of the biggest voices in the history of Soul Music: Al Green. Al Green found his taste for music and took his first steps in his career in the city prior to his family moving States at age 10. He is widely considered one of the greatest musical voices to ever come out of Arkansas.

Al Green was born on April 13, 1946, in Forrest City to a large family who primarily made a living sharecropping. At an early age, his talent for singing became apparent as he began a musical group with his brothers. The Southern-Soul sound stuck to him even after his family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan when he was 10 years old. Green would go on to have a successful career in Soul, R&B, and Gospel music who's singing ability were considered to be in the highest echelons of the genres. He currently resides in the Memphis, Tennessee where he continues to perform and preach.
