Founded in 1993, the mission of the Dallas County Museum is to collect, preserve, and promote the cultural and natural history of the county and the surrounding area. It is housed in the historic Mckee Building, which was built in 1907. The museum also operates a sports annex down the street called the Dallas County Sports Museum, which also houses the Dallas County Sports Hall of Fame. A highlight of sports museum is the exhibit honoring University of Alabama college football coach legend Paul "Bear" Bryant, who grew up in Fordyce.

The museum's exhibits explore a variety of topics including local Native American history, the geology of the county, the impact of railroads, and military history. Many items are on display such as photographs, Native American artifacts, and items related to the railroad and timber industries. The museum also houses the most extensive collection of working telephone equipment in Arkansas. Other highlights include guitar signed by Johnny Cash, who performed in Fordyce in 1982, the police ticket given to Rolling Stones band member Keith Richards in the mid-1970s for reckless driving. The McKee Building is a contributing property of the Fordyce Commercial Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
