John Howard was the Superintendent of the Sunset mine which is just up the road off of Washington street about 5 miles. He and his wife Lena and their 2 sons Thomas and Charles lived here until 1908 when they move to Vancouver. The original home burnt to the ground a few weeks before they left. The property was later rebuilt by Ole Olfstad who owned the local Saloon. (Old house photo)
Work at the mine was an arduous affair. Men left for the mines on Sunday night (?monday morning) by ... and returned on Saturday mornings to their families.
