The Cascades
Introduction
Text-to-speech Audio
The Cascades is a waterfall feature that marks the start of the Forest Park river system and pays tribute to one of the main features of the 1904 World's Fair. This water feature was a WPA project of the 1930s and was built to mimic the cascading waterfall that flowed between Festival Hall and The Collonnade of States at the 1904 World's Fair. Ragtime composer Scott Joplin found inspiration in that cascading waterfall and wrote The Cascades.
