This cemetery was rediscovered in the 1990s and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. The Town of Montgomery approved funds to support the restoration of the cemetery led by a committee consisting of historians, teachers, town officials, residents, and representatives of social justice organizations. In order to honor the memory of those buried in the cemetery, the committee has promised to work together to revitalize the cemetery. In addition, the nearby company Medline Industries pledged $100,000 to support the work to identify graves and provide markers.
