Backstory and Context

While Doyle Hall normally serves as a residence hall for both lower and upperclassmen students, during the COVID-19 pandemic on campus, Doyle Hall found itself being used for more than just a residence hall. The first-floor dorms were converted into a quarantine space for students that tested positive for COVID-19, better known as COVID jail by many of the students on campus. At one-point during the fall 2020 semester, the first floor was completely full. As of the fall 2021 semester, Doyle still houses the history department, ROTC, wellness center and the University Chapel as well as still serving as a residence hall for upperclassmen students, but the first floor remains as a quarantine space for COVID positive students.
