The Kibbe Museum is located in Carthage, Illinois and houses a collection of artifacts relating to the history of Hancock County and western Illinois. In addition, the museum also recently acquired the former collection of the Illinois Funeral Director’s Funeral Customs Museum. This world-class collection documents the material and social history of the mortuary profession and American funeral customs. Museum exhibits cover the varied aspects of life in western Illinois from the early frontier days through the early 20th century. Our approach to exhibit design permits closer viewing of most artifacts than you will normally experience in other museums.

The Kibbe Hancock Heritage Museum is located in Carthage, IL and Hancock County. This museum is home to many items and artifacts, some that have historical validity and some that are unusual. Kibbe Hancock Heritage Museum got its name from Dr. Alice Kibbe. Kibbe was the head of the Carthage College's biology department and museum curator. However, the colleges' museum moved to Wisconsin, planning to take artifacts with them. However, Dr. Kibbe purchased the artifacts from the college and donated those artifacts and her house to Carthage, IL. These collections display the life of Native Americans, pioneers, agriculture, and minerals from Hancock County. One of the weirdest, but most interesting pieces of history the Museum has is a two-headed pig, that attracts children of all ages.
