The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum opened in 1991. It contains 30-35 loaned sprint cars on display as well as memorabilia, photographs, and racing uniforms.

A group of sprint car enthusiasts who wanted to promote spring racing, including Knoxville Raceway promoter Ralph Capitani, founded the museum in 1986. It started out as a non-profit organization before opening as a museum in 1991. It is situated at turn two of the speedway, which is known around the world. Around 30-35 open-wheel race cars are on display at one time. All are loaned to the museum from the owners or fabricators who restored them. Visitors can watch races and events on the second floor of the museum, which is also available to rent. The race track itself is made of Iowa soil and is a half-mile oval. It was first used for horse racing; the first automobile race occurred in 1901. Weekly car races began in 1954.
