Grimsby Park flourished well into the 1930s. Church and company picnics were one of it’s specialties. Companies such as Proctor & Gamble, held their annual picnics here. The picnic grounds featured tables, seats, cooking stoves and boat swings. In 1906 the Emancipation Day celebration, commemorating the abolition of slavery was held here, and continued to be held here into the 1920s.
